CoverCress is developing a new low carbon intensity crop that fits between corn harvest and soybean planting in the Midwest. It improves soil health, adds farmer revenue, and brings a scalable source of low carbon intensity oil for biodiesel and aviation fuel. As a winter annual crop, it is covering open land, as current use of cover crops is at 5% of the land due to costs and no direct cash return.

RNAissance Ag LLC was formed in January 2019 by TechAccel to develop and manufacture RNAi solutions in agriculture and animal health. The company holds the exclusive license to proprietary RNAi technology developed at the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center that has promise to be effective for insect pests that previously were considered resistant to RNAi.

The Center for Plant and Life Sciences is a centrally located satellite campus of St. Louis Community College. A technical training program in biotechnology is located at the Center, along with extensive STEM outreach activities and the BioBench Contract Research Organization. The Center is a valuable resource for workforce training, outreach and independent student research support, as well as a vital tool for the startup community of the region with potential laboratory and equipment access.
